Organization

With some 10,500 students, the HWR Berlin works to achieve a combination of high-level intensive research into a range of areas with its clear practical application, all performed to the most exacting of quality standards and embedded in a strong network of international academic exchange. The HWR anchors its teaching and research activities in a wide subject portfolio which spans faculties of Business and Economics, private and public Economics, Administration, Legal and Security Management as well as a wide range of Engineering disciplines. The great majority of our more than 50 degree programmes have been converted into the Bachelor’s / Master’s format and have been audited and accredited. Conducting high-level research with a focus on its applicability, researchers at the HWR Berlin work in five departments, two Central Institutes, seven internal research Institutes and six An-Institutes. The HWR Berlin is a member of the Institut für angewandte Forschung Berlin e. V. (IFAF).  Currently maintaining over 160 active partnerships with institutions of higher education on every continent, we are continually seeking to expand and reinforce existing programmes of co-operation. The HWR Berlin is also a member in the “Alliance for Excellence” (UAS7) an association of seven German institutions of Higher Education dedicated to quality and internationality and working to extend joint research undertakings and develop shared research strategies.

Role in MAIA

The research group is guided by Prof. Dmitry Ivanov at the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR Berlin), who is the member of Institute for Logistics at HWR Berlin, and director of master program in Global Supply Chain and Operations Management at HWR Berlin. This group will provide a specialized expertise on supply chain structural dynamics and control, with an emphasis on global supply chain design with disruption risks, optimal control and scheduling, supply chain simulation, supply chain digitalization and risk analytics. Prof. Ivanov will provide the MAIA Academy with a great expertise in knowledge dissemination thanks to role of Chairman of IFAC TC 5.2 “Manufacturing Modelling for Management and Control” and Co-Chairman of the IFAC TC 5.2 Working group “Supply Network Engineering”. He is also General Conference Chair of the next 9th MIM Conference on Manufacturing Modelling, Management and Control to be held in Berlin in August 2019. This event will be a strong and unique possibility for starting a dissemination of MAIA to the international scientific academy.
