Organization

OTH Regensburg was founded in 1971 as a college of engineering, business studies and social services. Today it is one of the largest and research-intensive universities in Bavaria. It offers its researchers an excellent basis for a successful career. OTH Regensburg has around 11,000 students. 50 practice-oriented bachelor and master degree programmes in engineering, business studies, design, architecture, health and social studies offer high quality teaching and research.

Modern facilities, such as 120 state-of- the-art laboratories and an award-winning library located on an attractive campus provide the basis for successful studies. OTH Regensburg’s areas of expertise are energy & mobility, information & communication, life sciences & ethics, production & systems and building & infrastructure. These areas are tied together by expertise in sensor technology and digitalization. The university is well-known for its excellence in applied research, and benefits from a huge network of partners in industry. As one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Germany, Regensburg offers is a modern city that offers a cosmopolitan research environment and a high standard of secure living.

The Institute of Applied Research and Partnership with Industry (IAFW) acts as an umbrella organization and is the principal point of contact for all research activities of OTH Regensburg. It will besides the involved PIs, faculties and OTH researchers serve as a guide and supporter for incoming and outgoing secondees.

OTH Regensburg has a particular strong standing in digital skills and digital technology development which is underpinned by the team of Professors and labs contributing to MAIA.

Role in MAIA

OTH Regensburg’s building.lab, Cybercrafting lab & Cyber Crafting College, and the Regensburg School of Digital Sciences (RSDS, centre for joint work across faculties for digital innovation) are forming an innovation incubation infrastructure for creating visions, skills and solution for the digital transformation of industry, infrastructure and society (digital construction, digital transformation of local crafts and trades, smart mobility, future work environments, smart cities, etc.). Researchers are guided by experienced staff (lecturers, lab technicians, innovation instructors) in realising their ideas and projects. Through this infrastructure researchers have access to a broad range of tools required to develop future workplace, crafts and production environments in MAIA (robots, drones, motion capturing systems, software to parametrically model and plan work processes and human-centred manufacturing systems, AR/VR devices, etc.). The technology driven local industry around OTH Regensburg serves as test bed and living lab.
